Learning experiences

These are some of my highlights of experiences that were presented to the children throughout my time at Toronto Metropolitan University.

I set up a play invitation with reflective blocks, a reflective cloth and animals. The children noticed the animals and were provided with paper and markers. They made connections between the dots and the footprint from the animals.

Decorating our wall

The children used big planks to create a shelter. They talked about how to navigate daily life in the shelter. I suggested we make wall decorations for the house and provided them with loose parts.

Footprints!

Water Play

The children explored concepts of liquid transferring and sea animals in this sensory experience with water, ice, containers and animals miniatures.

Traffic rules

Children used cars to drive through the obstacles made of tape. The younger ones tried to either walk on or drive on the lines, and the older ones made up some rules so that it was fair for everyone when handling the car to win.

Emotions!

Parents and children attending a parenting program at a family resource centre where I did my placement. It is a program talking about emotions. There are copies of real human faces in emotions and a list of books recommended when talking about emotions.

Funds of knowledge

"Funds of knowledge" are skillsets that one has collected throughout their life. I made a poster board at the family resource centre with the goal to empower parents and families on the knowledge and skills that they have accrued, which made a huge impact on their child's life.
